A lot of news for East High School this morning!

First of all, a big time congratulations to Ms Beth Hinz, Colorado Sportswoman of the Year! Check out the story here. Great job to her.

Also, although there will be no three-peat, the boys basketball team had an good season. Here is all the scoop. It was a good season for both basketball teams, capped by the city title returning to East in both boys and girls.

The spring musical Guys and Dolls opens Thursday at 7PM, presented by the East Theater Company. Make sure to get your tickets soon, as these things do sell out. The international dinner runs before the Thursday show.

Presentation night is this Wednesday at 7PM, along with the Alive at 25 Class.

Good luck to East's speech team as they head to state this weekend!

Good luck to the East speech team (ranked 63rd in the nation, out of over 2000 teams) as they try to qualify for the state tournament this weekend at Thorton High School.

Way to go girls basketball on a big win against Doherty, and best of luck to the back-to-back state champion boys team as they play their first playoff game today at 1PM at East.

Student council volunteered at City Park on Thursday, and helped with debris removal.

We also wrote the Overland boys basketball team a letter in support of their efforts in wake of the recent racial issues that occured when they played Mullen.

And good luck Angels as this week will be more laid back.

Finally, congrats to Cody Harris, who placed fourth in the state wrestling tournament.

A reminder, tomorow is the big boy's and girl's city championship basketball game, at East. The Girl's is at 5:30 and the Boy's is at 7:00, versus last years 4A state champs, Lincoln. Get ready for a sold out game, and get there early. Kendell B, from KS 107.5 and Keeping It Real TV, will also be there tailgating, so make sure to check him out, and go East. Seniors are encouraged to wear their senior T Shirts for the last basketball home game of the year.

In addition to this game, the boys and girls basketball state championship schedule comes out on Sunday, check CHSAA for more details.

The swim team is keeping it real.

A reminder, if you want to play a spring sport, the deadline to sign up is without a doubt tomorow.

Way to go both boy's and girl's basketball teams, on convincing league wins this weekend.

BSA meeting tomorow at lunch.

Congrats to Zach Grossnickel and DaVaugn Thornton, who both signed with CU for next year. We hope to be seeing big things from them in the future.

MORP INFORMATION
Tickets on sale from Thursday the 29th to Saturday the 7th at noon. Before Friday at 4PM, tickets are $8 for singles and $12 for couples. Before noon on Saturday, tickets at $10 for singles and $15 for couples. Each ticket includes a mask. Guest forms are due on Tuesday the 3rd.

CONGRATS TO THE SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM, WHO PLACED FIRST AT A NATIONAL TOURNAMENT, BEATING OVER 60 SCHOOLS. THIS IS A BIG DEAL!
Also, good job girl's swimming, who placed third this weekend at a big meet. Way to go!

If you want to attend the choir concert tonight (7PM at Boettcher Concert Hall, check out this link for more information), you need to pick up free tickets at a library or at the concert tonight.

Boys basketball will play Thunderidge at 7PM tomorow night.

Tomorow is indeed a late start, with classes starting at 1035 AM.

Thursday at 7PM in the auditorium is a very special Buddy Rich Tribute featuring our band director Keith Oxman (who toured with Buddy Rich) and drummer Paul ROmaine, amond others.

There will be an MLK Assembly from 9 to 1030 AM on Friday the 16th.

No school on January 19th for MLK day, but there is a health fair at Manual from 8 to 4 (contact Ms Anderson if you want to volunteer!) and a Marade starting at CIty Park at 10AM.

Instrumental music performance with Keith Oxman and Paul Romaine for a Buddy Rich Tribute on Thursday January 15th at 7PM.

A reminder that there is no school on MLK day, January 19th, but there will as always be a Marade at City Park at 10AM.

Tonight, from 630 to 8, is program preview night for prespective students.

Good luck wrestling team as they have a big meet today, and the swimmers as they compete tonight and Saturday at Manual.

Missed the senior meeting today? Don't dispair, see your counselor today.

Table tennis club meets next to the trainers' room (in the basement) next Tuesday after school.

Good luck to our award winning speech team, as they travel to Greeley this weekend for a tournament.

A big congrats to the FOOTBALL TEAM:

-  Quick Hildreth and Zach Grossnickel, who were named second team all-state for 5A football.
-  DaVaughn Thornton was also first team in the Rocky
-  Thornton and Grossnickle were named to the All-Colorado Team in the Post, and they are the only two from Denver Public Schools on that list! Way to go!

A big congrats to Quick Hildreth and Zach Grossnickel, who were named second team all-state for 5A football.

Congratulations to our back-to-back defending national champion con law team, who once again won the state tournament.

A reminder that this first week we do not have any block schedule.

If you are interested in Rugby, it is not too late to sign up. The first practice is on January 10th, contact Mr. Calhoun for more information.
